Ray Greenberg, MD, PhD, became President of the Medical University of South Carolina in January of 2000. An advocate for the health of South Carolinians and the advancement of medical research, he has promoted MUSC’s statewide outreach and collaboration with other SC academic institutions. Under his leadership, MUSC has achieved fiscal health and has experienced record growth in research funding and philanthropic support. He has led the replacement of the University’s hospital buildings with state-of-the-art academic and clinical facilities to allow the delivery of the most advanced patient care and training of tomorrow’s leaders in health and science.
Prior to coming to Charleston, Dr. Greenberg was the founding dean of the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University and is nationally recognized for his research on cancer. He holds a medical degree from Duke University, a master’s degree from Harvard, and bachelors and doctoral degrees from the University of North Carolina.
